The Senior Citizens’ Banquet Kicks Off in Shegan Village: Over 670 Elders Share the Flavors of Home

Philanthropic entrepreneur Chen Wei gives back to his roots, extending his care to every elderly resident.
On December 26, 2025, in Shegan Village, Taihu Town, a lively banquet unfolded as dishes were successively brought to the tables. A wide variety of dishes, exuding the rustic charm of country life, filled every table at the venue. With over 80 round tables filled to capacity, the village’s elderly residents gathered together in joyful reunion.
In an interview, villager Wang Fasheng expressed his delight regarding this banquet honoring the elderly. “Everyone is gathered together; it is truly a lively and festive occasion,” Wang Fasheng remarked. Through this gathering, the participating seniors felt the warmth of the winter season.In addition to the delicious cuisine, cultural performances were held throughout the banquet. These performances brought a deeper sense of spiritual enrichment to the elderly attendees. Moreover, the atmosphere at the venue felt like a blazing fire in the depths of winter—a fire that warmed the hearts of everyone present.
“I grew up here, I was born here, and I hold a deep affection for this land,” said Chen Wei, the organizer of the banquet. “No matter how far I may travel, I will always return to this hometown.”
With the aim of building a better countryside, entrepreneur Chen Wei established a charitable fund dedicated to providing comfort allowances for the elderly, financial assistance for families in need, and support for university students.
This event not only upheld the excellent traditional Chinese virtue of filial piety toward the elderly but also actively put into practice the national strategy for rural revitalization.
